A toilet seat lift is a mechanism that attaches to most toilets to lift the toilet seat up in order to help the users rise from the toilet. It is perfect for those without the upper body strength to push themselves from the toilet.

It is easy to install and comes with detachable armrests so you feel secure as you are lifted from the toilet or you can remove them if they are in the way. It works by pressing a button on the handset and the motorised arm lifts the seat from the back pushing you forward. It is supposed to mimic the motion in which you sit up and down naturally to make the process more comfortable. The mechanical seat is moved at the touch of the button and you can raise the seat to as high or low as you wish. It comes with two rechargeable batteries so you can charge one while you use the other.

Other toilet seat lifts are not just for the handicapped. There are novelty mechanisms that attach to most toilets to lift the toilet seat up without having to touch it. Instead you are able to press the foot pedal and it rises up automatically. When you have finished on the toilet, the seat closes quietly. The biggest benefit of this is that it ends any arguments about who left the toilet seat up!

There are also seat lifters which are basically just a small porcelain knob which can be attached to the side of the seat. It allows you to lift the seat up without actually touching it, but by using the knob instead. There are lots of these on the market which do not cost a lot and are easy to fit. Porcelain is also said to be much more hygienic than the plastic toilet seat as it is non porous and a less habitable environment for germs.
