Cushioned Toilet Seat
There are various cushioned toilet seats available today. There
are those that are used to raise the seat height and provide padding for disabled people and there are others that
are just to make going to the toilet a more pleasant experience.
Before purchasing a cushioned seat it is important to measure
the size of your bowl. The measurement is made from the furthest point at the front of the bowl to the hinges at
the back. Elongated bowls tend to be about 18.5 inches long, while round bowls are usually 16.5 inches, but it is
best to measure in case yours is different.
The standard Classique Soft Cushioned Seat is available in 12
colours. So not only is it comfortable, but you can match it to your bathroom colours. It is made of textured vinyl
and adjustable hinges make it easy to install. It is a basic cushioned seat with no extra height, just extra
comfort. For a raised padded seat, the DMI Vinyl Cushion Toilet Seat is very good. It has foam padding and is
upholstered in white vinyl. There are two sizes, one which adds 2 inches to the toilet seat and one which adds 4
inches. This means it caters for shorter and taller people. It fastens onto the toilet seat with hook straps and
can also be used on commodes.
The major benefit of a cushioned seat as opposed to a raised
toilet seat is the price. They are very cheap to buy and so are perfect for people on a budget. It is also better
for the elderly with delicate skin as it will be more comfortable and less likely to rub during use. Of course it
is important that the seat is waterproof, which the majority of them are, and some have removable covers to aid
cleaning. Most padded seats are rounded to fit on a standard toilet bowl but there are some which have square edges
and therefore would fit more comfortably on a commode if needed. It is even possible to buy a carry bag for your
toilet seat so it can be transported hygienically and discreetly should it be necessary.
A cushioned seat is also very useful for potty training
children. They are usually available in a variety of colours including blue or pink and are good for teaching your
child how to use the toilet. Toilet seats are usually a little too wide for a 2 or 3 year old’s bottom so the
cushioned seat gives them a little more security while sitting on the toilet. It can also make it a bit more fun
for them as they can choose a design they like in the shop, and then at home they have their own special
seat.
Cushioned toilet seats are one of the most versatile of
toileting aids. They can be used for the disabled, the elderly, the young or just anybody who would like to sit
comfortably and read the paper on the toilet!
